Yoon Chang (b. 1986) is a Korean-American artist based in Los Angeles. Her artistic process is influenced by automatism, accessing material from the unconscious mind to create mindscape compositions featuring gestural shapes and lines with layers of translucent and solid colors. Through varied color palettes and brushstrokes, she explores and conveys the dynamics and complexities of human emotions, inviting viewers to engage with their interpretations and feelings.

She studied Interior Design at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. She worked as an interior architect and graphic designer—fields rooted in precision, structure, and the shaping of spaces to fit a predetermined vision. In contrast, abstract painting is a process of unlearning that structured control, of letting go of the need to recreate reality or conform to expectations. Abstraction embraces the unknown—it unfolds like an emotion, guided by instinct and an intuitive sense of balance and resolution.
